Phillip Allen

Patricia Behning

Patricia Behning has been a Duluth Police Officer for over 25 years, 11 in investigations and 14 in patrol. Currently Patty is a Lieutenant in uniform patrol and the Central Area Commander. She is in charge of all of the police services (officers, sergeants and programs) in the Central Policing area. She supervises the five sergeants, five community officers, one school liaison officer, one property crime investigator and twenty patrol officers (including five k-9 officers) who work in the central area.

Chuck Bergquist

Chuck Bergquist was raised in Duluth and graduated from East High School & UMD. He was the Duluth Area Supervising Deputy and recently retired after 30 years with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. Chuck's wife Sue is an Occupational Therapist with St. Mary's Home Care, their son is Rob, 23, and a taxidermist with Artistic Anglers and their daughter Maren, 19, is a student at the College of St. Scholastica studying Physical Therapy. Chuck is secretary of Trinity Masonic Lodge, Pipemajor with Aad Shrine Pipes & Drums, reader at the newpaper of the air at the Lighthouse for the Blind, and reader at MacArthur. He enjoys fishing, motorcycling, curling.

Jim Cherveny

Jim Cherveny is Executive Vice President/Senior Officer, Hospital Division, SMDC Health System in Duluth. He has been involved with Men As Peacemakers from its earliest stages. JIm has served as a mentor in the Mentoring Works program since 1998 and has helped with organizational design and development as the organization has grown and matured. He has been a Board member since1999 and served terms as Board Co-Chair and Chair during this time.

Blair Gagne - Treasurer

Blair Gagne, YMCA Community Services Director, holds a Masters Degree in Community Counseling and has had more than twenty-five years of experience in the successful development of programs for youth. Blair has worked with mentoring programs for the past 16 years and most recently guided the development of a city-wide Mentoring Collaboration known as Mentor Duluth. Blair was a 2002 recipient of the Minnesota Karen Kydd Angel of Mentoring award, given to individuals who make a great impact on the lives of children through mentoring.

Fletcher Hinds

Fletcher Hinds graduated from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis with a Masters of Social Work degree. He has since worked as a human service professional for more than 30 years. He has worked with children, the chemically dependent and the disabled. He has also worked on programs that address poverty and homelessness. He has volunteered with the Duluth Community Action Program, In-School Mentoring, the Boy Scouts, the Duluth Preservation Alliance and the Duluth Sister Cities Program. He is also active in the Veterans community. Fletcher is married with two grown children. He and his family have lived in Duluth for 29 years. He is currently employed by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Matt Johnson

Matt Johnson is a Child Protection Social Worker in the Initial Intervention Unit at St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services where he has worked since 2002. He is also an adjunct instructor in the Social Work Department at the College of St. Scholastica. Prior work experience includes being a Restorative Justice Program Coordinator for the MN State Committed Female Program, Supervisor and Counselor for a residential treatment program for the Wilder Foundation. Matt is married and the father of a young daughter. Interests include reading, sports, hiking, and camping.

Deb Sauter

Ken Schoen

Ken Schoen has a lifetime of experience and involvement in corrections and criminal justice issues. His employment experience includes directing the Institute on Criminal Justice at the U of MN Law School, concentrating on issues of sentencing, corrections, and juvenile justice. He served as Special Master for the Federal District Court overseeing a consent decree relating to New York City's corrections system and directed the Justice Program of a major New York City foundation for 18 years. He served in several capacities in Minnesota state corrections from probation officer to State Corrections Commissioner.

Don Streufert - Vice Chair

Don Streufert is an assistant professor in the Dept of Psychology at UMD. He is also practicing psychology at the UMD Health Servcies and the Duluth Psychological Clinic. Don has been a MAP Board Member since 1998. He has been involved as a mentor at Grant School and at the YMCA. Don has also been involved in MAP's Restorative Justice Programs.

Chuck Walt

Chuck Walt has worked as an administrator for the Fond du Lac Reservation Human Services Division for the past 19 years. Mr. Walt has a B.A. degree in Health Science and Dietetics from the College of St. Scholastica and a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Walt is an enrolled member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. He is married and has two children.

Robert Wahman

Bob Wahman practiced internal medicine at the Duluth Clinic beginning in 1968 and subsequently became the Medical Director of St Mary's Medical Center for 7 years prior to retiring in 1997. Since retirement he has served as a mentor for Mentor Duluth and on a number of boards, including the Duluth-Superior Symphony and the Duluth-Superior Community Health Clinic's board.

Tom Wiig

Tom Wigg is a General Surgeon and General Surgery Section Chief at SMDC. Tom grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He has a BA in Theatre Arts from Hastings College 1971. He attended medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, 1972-1976 and did his General Surgery Residency from 1976-1981 also at the U of N College of Medicine. Tom came to The Duluth Clinic in 1981 and has practiced General Surgery here since then. He is married and is the father of two children: David, 19 and Erin 17.
