Men As Peacemakers Commitments

A child climbs a wall with the help of an adult

Peacemaking men stand up and say there is an alternative to violence, and that violence is not acceptable. They help children develop the assets they need - positive values, family structure, and role models - to grow up healthy. They teach men and boys new ways of being and of doing. Peacemaking men resist the sense of powerlessness which violence bring to our community.

  • Remove violence as a way to resolve conflict.
  • Speak up peacefully and firmly whenever we encounter disrespect or violence.
  • Build a caring community to support men.
  • Understand the needs and fears of women.
  • Listen to, learn from and respect people who are different from us.
  • Teach children peaceful ways to solve problems.
  • Make amends and change our behavior when we contribute to violence in any form.
  • Realize that peace is more than the absence of violence.
  • Work to protect every person´s right to be safe and fell safe.
  • Join together with organizations and people working to alleviate violence.
