Community Offender Reentry Program (CORP)
The Community Offender Reentry Program is a collaboration between Soar Career Solutions, Lake Superior College (LSC), Arrowhead Regional Corrections (ARC) and Men As Peacemakers (MAP), which helps ex-offenders successfully reintegrate back into our community. Each year, over 300 ex-offenders are released into Duluth for supervision by ARC. However, due to limited resources and extremely high caseloads, there is not enough support to provide the help they need. They face many significant barriers including finding housing, food, clothing, mental health and substance abuse treatment, employment and many more.
Most ex-offenders are motivated to change, but without assistance, many return to criminal activity. CORP helps these men identify and overcome their barriers, which ultimately leads them to become productive, tax paying citizens. Sponsors for Changing Lives is MAP's contribution to this effort. Each participant in the program is matched up with a volunteer community sponsor. The sponsor provides support and friendship to the ex-offender as he adjusts to his new surroundings and tries on new behaviors. This positive link to a member of the community is integral not only from a mentoring standpoint but it also encourages the ex-offender to be responsible and accountable to the community.
